Boobiful Babies is our NCT branch breastfeeding support group. We are a group of mums who have all breastfed our children and wanted to help other mothers have a good experience too. We opened our doors in May 2007 after a training course delivered by Breastfeeding Advisor for Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, Joan Buckley. Our training, equipment, hall hire and so on has been funded through a Welsh Assembly Grant.

So what do we do and why do support groups work?

In this day and age, women mostly live outside their natural support groups. They often live a long way from their families who would have given them all the support needed in the early days after giving birth. Once a woman becomes pregnant she can often feel very isolated as her social group is not going through the same experience. A lot of women also grow up not having seen other women breastfeed and so peer support groups like ours provide a vital role in helping mums grow in confidence in their new role. Statistics show that most women stop breastfeeding before they really want to. So we hope to help women have a positive experience of breastfeeding and only stop when mum and baby want to.

When you come along you will be greeted with a friendly face, a listening ear and a cuppa of your choice! You will be meeting a group of mums like yourself who have had a variety of experiences and who will hopefully make you feel that you are not alone. You can come along if you want to know something specific about breastfeeding or if you just want to come along for a chat and get out of the house. We can help you find information on any topic to do with breastfeeding, from correct positioning and how do you know they are getting enough to how to carry on breastfeeding when you go back to work or how to wean a toddler. We run our group every Thursday of the year except for the week between Christmas and New Year. We also welcome older siblings and you can also bring your mum, partner or friend if you like.

Look forward to seeing you there!
